My mother, she was angry when beneath the black and white lined hem those shoes, the ones I wore for years- well, I was sure you couldn't see them I'd tied the laces perfectly, black to match my dress, you see, and oh, I scrubbed the mud off too the toes, they shined quite perfectly My date, he thought it was devine his shoes were black and white, like mine and while others toes were pinched and squished, all night, ours were fine The girls in heels smiled and I felt like I'd outsmarted them, the shoes I'd worn to school each day revealed as I lifted the hem And that night, when it began to rain as they stumbled, hanging back in vain I ran across the grass, and laughed thankful once again. Mine are on the left, and I wrote this off the top of my head, recalling the time I wore them to the prom. |

Style bucks trend as fashion when you've got the gift of confidence. And oh, you do have that, and much much more! I'm finding myself wishing I'd taken a picture of every pair of shoes I have ever worn out. |

I love your story! I used to be a slave to those high heels m'self, but left them under the table at prom in order to dance lol... walking in them was ok then but dancing in 5 inch heels? Nah - its like asking for a broken ankle. (besides - they made me taller than my date and he wasn't crazy about that heheheheh) I love the photo too - used to have a pair of those and finally tossed them when both soles had holes all the way through. Cool challenge response Caroline He who wants a rose must respect the thorn. |

Thanks everybody. This was fun! A little more background: Bought the shoes at a thrift store for $2, wore them nearly every day for three years, until they were held together with super glue and safety pins. I wore them to the prom, figuring no one could see my shoes unless I lifted my dress. And anyway, my date was 5'6", and I'm 5'7", so it worked out pretty well. |

Allysa, I so loved your prom story and photo. My son had a crushed heel and so always wore high top keds. For his wedding day he went out and bought teal colored high tops for himself and his best man and ushers. They wore a teal cumberbund too. The brides mother and I both happened to buy a darker shade of teal dress and it all looked planned. To top it off I had made my gold wedding band into an earring with both my wedding date and his engraved, because I thought of it as a gift from his deceased Dad and I. His gracious bride at the time to exchange rings reached up and placed it in his ear. I did not know she would do this. I just assumed he would wear it that day and after. I think others at the wedding were taken aback when they saw this, especially her mom. But I loved it. So I love what you did too. It takes a confident person to go so far from convention. It is nothing wrong or bad but so few have that courage. Thank you for being a whole Allysa. martyjo [This message has been edited by latearrival (03-17-2007 11:59 PM).] |
