The Skier

When we were young, we used to ski.
We'd often invite two or three
Of our close friends and off we'd go,
Up the mountain to find snow.
I'd stand and watch them make a pass
Before the lodge and through the glass
Admire all the grace and flair
Each one displayed while sking there.

I'd toast awhile before the fire
And let the afternoon expire,
But just before we had to leave,
I'd make an effort I believe
Was super-human, go outside,
Find a tow line I could ride,
Hold on fast to that thick rope
And go on up the bunny slope.
In five minutes, I'd be down.
Then we'd be driving back to town!

Sounds like you ski like I do, Betty.  I had the most fun I've had in a long time at a six year old's party at the skating rink Saturday night.  It was Hannah's 6th.  Can you believe that?  Anyway she was so much fun to watch.  She skated around and around that rink like her life depended on it,  fell down  and got back up without a whimper. She was so red in the face from her effort she'd come up to the sideline and ask for a drink of water  and go right back.  It was hilarious

Love, Joyce

Dear Joyce:  Sometimes watching the younger generation doing things we used to, is twice as much fun as it was then!  Thanks for your response.

Hi MiCheLLe:  For me the most fun was sitting in the lodge by the fire!

Hi, Betty. I agree - watching others do it, enjoy themselves is much fun too.  Your poem has such a pleasant surprise ending - I can just see you going down the bunny slope - to me, that's a lot of courage for a winter sport.

I'm immigrating to Canada soon, but I'm not sure I could do that at my age!  *smile*

Well, you were thinking about writing this poem while you were going down the bunny hill. So there!
How do I know? Well, chickens inspire poems from you, and trees, and dogs, and cookies, and birds, and ...........................

Dear Barb:  Believe me......when I was skiing down the bunny slope, I had only one thing on my mind!  Staying in an upright position!!

Thanks! You are my biggest fan I'm sure!

I don't ski but, I like this piece.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

pegasus111:  I can't say I ever "skiied" either. I think you have to do better than the bunny slope to qualify as a true skiier!
However I was a good "faller!"

Betty Lou,

Maybe you never skiied, but you conquered the tow rope.  That's more than I have done.

I miss you.
