Christmas Week Jitters

"It's Christmas week and I'm not ready",
Is that what Mary said,
When she found herself in Bethlehem;
No place to rest her head?"

I ponder this as I lament;
"The power's been out for days.
I was snowbound the week before.
The rain just stays and stays.

How can I get my shopping done?
I have more fudge to make.
The leaves, the howling wind brought down,
Await me and the rake."

Christmas Eve is coming soon.
I'm really in a tizzy.
The clock hands spin around so fast,
They have me feeling dizzy.

Just as sheer panic starts to reign,
I give myself a shaking.
I'll tackle one task at a time;
The cleaning and the baking.

In the way that Mary calmed herself
For this Child she soon adored;
Christmas Eve will find me ready
For the birthday of my Lord.
