(3 golf course shorties) Old duffer, old crone, each with putting stick in hand, walk slow to the cup. *** Behind the 12th tee I recall forests, gone now... and I can't go back. *** Smack! Save your wooden clubs if you can. It's how golf was meant to be played. |

That's not dew---it smells too bad. Old starters sleep in, but old sprinklers lurk. *** A fifty-foot putt made for luck; a five-footer missed for foul curses! |

Looking longingly towards the clubhouse is a sure sign of fatigue. *** Some greens undulate; others can't be mowed sidehill. Approach in plain sight. (golf - not to be confused with an addictive game) |

Thonk! That got some tree. A good walk spoiled is not what golf is s'posed to be. *** You won't break 90 if you move your head, or so Arnold Palmer said. Look at the back of the ball and think about punishment. |

Green greens, green fairways, green trees rounded and spiked, and green rough a-plenty... Green grass stains and dark mud, for red ballwasher's soapy blood. |

The length of the course? The distance from ear to ear. The mind is the game. |

^true, but decent physical resources help quite alot, too. **** Toss that grass up in the air, then chase down your hat where it's lying there. *** Some sound the flagstick makes when thrown to ground greenside--- the "caddyless" sound. |

^The "lines in the dew" line is so true, although that same dew affects the putted ball alot, too. **** Hoist up thy slim bag and walk, for here be the clink of steel in the sack. **** Torturers hurt my eyesight. I can't see the ball finish anymore. **** When a golf course wants to take you out behind the woodshed, that it does. |
