Have the decades lied in passing
smeared or cleared faint graying lines?
Are war clouds once dispersed amassing
fanned by mans designs?

I watched them loose the dogs of war
heard whimpers as they softly died.
I felt the fence I balanced shatter
and swear to god I cried.

Rebels, heroes, blacks or brothers
Muslims by another name,
farmers, soldiers, Christians, mothers,
aren’t they people just the same?

This life is mine, is yours, is ours,
it's fought about and lost
but freedom is a hollow war cry
when freedom is the cost .

I know you are my Brother, I have an eye to see
I know you have been waiting noisily for me
You set a trap, I took the bait, the battle has begun
We'll see when this is over, that both of us has won.

But in this epic battle, the one that must be fought
One will win and  harvest all,  the other will reap naught.
Gird up they loins, my prideful friend, for though you have an edge
I'l run a stake clear through your heart, in it I'll drive a wedge

This world will crack, and separate,  those with Love, from those who Hate
And those that lie alone will rise, and join with those still left alive
We'l make a sound to reach all ears, and  xpose to them their darkest fears,
The wheel is spinning round and round, Rise up now to this Awefull Sound!

what is it good for?

according to "the boss", back in the '80's, it was good for "absolutely nothin'!"

but i am inclined to disagree, today.

war against oppression is not war against freedom(in accordance with my humble thought process)...though one can make that semantic argument.

war and death will eliminate the saddam husseins of oppression.

the earth is becoming "smaller" every year and we can no longer afford the luxury of oppressive coexistence in the anthill of humanity.

[quoute]war against oppression is not war against freedom[/quote]

I agree.

quote:
the earth is becoming "smaller" every year and we can no longer afford the luxury of oppressive coexistence in the anthill of humanity.

Which doesn’t remove the irony that war in the name of freedom costs a little of your freedom to wage whether you win or lose.

Do you feel more or less safe since the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq? Do you think you have more or less freedom?

freedom is a hollow war cry
when freedom is the cost .

"freedom is just another word if there is nothin' left to lose"...so wrote, kris kristofferson and so "sang", janis joplin.

the military complex moves in accord with the views of our leadership and from the looks of what is happening in iraq and afghanistan, that complex is far removed from being mothballed or cocooned.

thus, the irony of war continues and it makes no difference how i feel to the wagers of war concerning the cost in terms of dollars and human life.

their concern is for the survival of the anthill and leadership's view of democracy and freedom.

suggestion:

1)next to last line..."but freedom is a hollow war cry"...feels out of balance to me!

2)suggestion..."but freedom has a hollow sound"...its just a thought, passed on as a positive suggestion.

on the "macro" level i feel as free today as i did yesterday but on the "micro" level freedoms and liberties are being eroded through subtle law changes to accomodate the actions of government against perceived or potential enemy supporters from within our own boundaries.

manmade systems of government are evolving...just like the plants and animals and though the laws of nature allow for coexistence in the struggle to survive, some systems like some species, will perish! when the population within the environment increases, beyond the the ability of the envivonment to support it, the situation becomes a "dog eat dog" circumstance without "due process" and only the "fittest" will remain.

i'm finding natural selection of  manmade systems of government to be an interesting concept to ponder in the changing world of today and your poem has stimulated me in that direction.
