Plea For Freedom Silver notes from a gilded cage. A body small and tired. Wings clipped to view. Plenty to eat, In the name of love. A looking glass to preen in, Show haunted eyes and sorrow And she sings in vain She sings her pain Naked before a blind audience, In a playground for one. Tiny heart throbbing silently, Neath ruffling of feathers. Protected, warm, sheltered, From freedom, From life. From the sweet release of death. The caged bird sings, As tears pool beneath her. Securely bound to her pedestal. Liberty within her heart The blindness of his love, A heart that lost its key. He only sees her beauty Why would she have such dreams? Her notes a whisper of silver, Are all that can be free. Defiance soaring unfettered |

Hi June: This is sad, but then I think all caged birds are sad. My father used to raise canaries and I wanted so much to set them free! Not the thing to do in a cold climate!! Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

found the poem to be complex and very stimulating...am existing with a compulsion relative to freedom...am seeing myself as a green and copper colored fly being attracted to sugar...listening to janis joplin singing "me and bobby mcgee" while i read "king lear" and ponder..."who am i?"..."doth any here know me?"..."who is it that can tell me who i am?" we can be given food, shelter and other comforts all in the name of love or commitment but if we feel oppressed in our situation, then we are not free. conditioned boundaries of existence often become a way of life and is the gilded surface that snares us or traps us into believing that what we think, feel or say is of lesser value than the conditioned values of our existence. it is that discovery that will set us free and the feathers on the clipped wings will begin to grow, anew!
