Looking into the laughter from yesterday,
through misted eyes that blur the way.
In memory waves like a gentle tide,
washing ashore the days of a little child.
Here comes the scent of blooming rose,
and sun-warmed grass of spring day meadows.
Now the woody smell of the smoke,
that winter log fires would always provoke.
Pictures and sounds of my sisters and I,
flapping our wings in the snow to fly.
Angels of winter we would lay in a row,
watch our chimney puff circles up to the snow.
There were times in Autumn my memory believes,
of girls dancing to music on crackling leaves.
Indoors the warmest place we could be,
a vision of mother baking constantly.
Lemon topped buns and scones with cheese,
a floury apron and three children to please.
Often we would squabble over who brought in coal,
whose turn it was to scrape the icing from the bowl.
And now I stand here hidden in the trees,
peeping out at my home of memories.
The roof is fallen, there are birds in the eaves
and the garden is covered in rubble and weeds.
The windows are gone along with our front door.
furnishings of laughter and love ar no more.
Yet as I look upon this abandoned site,
I watch two nesting birds launch into flight.
And I smile as I put my memories on hold,
for I am watching a new life begin to unfold.
A tiny family of the avian kind,
is making its memories just like mine.

Dear June:  Lovely!  One thing to be thankful for, no matter how much things change, our memory keeps them just the way they were!

A delightful study of slipping back into memories of the past...and the realization that new memories are always in the making.

This is a long read, you might want to consider a break after ..."icing from the bowl." as this is where your poem turns from the past into the present.

I enjoy this!

Ink runs from the corners of my mouth
There is no happiness like mine.
I have been eating poetry.

JuneMac~
I adore this wind and rewind ... how beautiful you weave the past into the present~

Admire the way you softly feathered these thoughts~

GOOD to see you gal~
