The Wild Unknown

Beyond the sloping lawn and trees,
Lies a lake where every breeze
Ruffles up the water's face
And shifts the reeds from place to place.
It brings to me the scent of bog.
Of moss that grows on fallen log.
A hint of wilderness and more
About the land outside my door.
The geese who stop here on their way
To where they build their nests and lay,
All seem to find a lot to eat
And when they leave, I hear the beat
Of many wings against the sky,
Accompanied by their haunting cry.
It raises up a longing to
Explore the wild, the way they do,
But yet I know it's not for me.
I'm planted where I need to be!

Wonderful writing, Betty Lou.  I wonder if those geese come to Alaska to nest and spend the summer.  Makes the world seem so much smaller.

Dear Alison:

I'm sure some of those geese make their way to Alaska. They like the tundra country of northern Canada I know. I grew up there and can remember the huge flocks we used to see.

Thanks for reading.

You always paint a great picture of nature. I enjoyed the read.
...It raises up a longing to
Explore the wild, the way they do,
But yet I know it's not for me.
I'm planted where I need to be!...

I, too, wish I could spend more time in the wild.

Thanks,
Melton

Dear Joyce:

Thanks for your message. Ron and I are keeping busy, as my older son is getting married here on the banks of Marie Creek, on July 4th. We are only having about 40 people, so it is small and casual. We are all looking forward to it.

Love
Betty Lou

Dear Melton:

I appreciate your nice remarks and thank you for reading. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time camping and fishing in the wilder areras and loved it. It's pretty much a thing of the past now though. Great memories however.
