Getting On I loll about the pool; the waters cool my skin. I dream about the grass I relished yesterday. Absently I look about. Where could Hank be now? In vain I seek my friend. I recall. He is gone! Taken by the plague which assailed our pod. Same age as me, Hank was; Bigger and stronger, though. With brazen cheek of youth a bull sits in Hank’s place; smarmy grin on his face, baiting me to give chase. My mind prepares an attack; My body says “no way”. I will get Hank’s spot back; I yawn, just not today. I spin my tail, defecate, I am hippo, big and bad! I slide down into the mud. Crocs all scatter like mad. My years march on stubbornly. I’m a nuisance to the young. Try and make me go away; if you dare. I am ornery. I am fierce. I am here to stay. |

Sounds like me too often lately, I'm afraid to say! Very entertaining poem, collins613! |

I enjoyed writing this one. (Not always the case!). Thanks for the feedback. |
