Gratitude And Thankfulness

Sitting by fireplace fire all aglow
Watching the flames dance like a
Leaf falling from a tree.  It swooned
From side to side finally resting at
The end of its dance only to begin afresh
A new flame flickering all the more vigorously

Remembering the thankful moments of my life,
I thought about God.  How he had saved me from
My own desires to hide my pain for the losses I
Had suffered in a divorce similar to the movie
War Of The Rose’s. We fought until we could no
Longer stay away from the comforts of liquor as
Though it could help us only to keep us sane.
.
I thought of the Gratitude in my heart for the few
Friends I had for the therapist that helped me endure.
I was thankful that my daughter forgave me for my
Ignorant behavior toward her when I was hurting so
Much in my life that I seemed to forget the damage
She too was suffering.

I am thankful that I got through that divorce but more
Than that I am thankful that it finally ended but not
without a struggle making me A stronger more aware
Woman when it was over.

I have gratitude now that I can talk to my EX-husband
Even forgive Him for protecting himself back then.
I am grateful that we can share Thanksgivings and
Christmas together so neither of us has to suffer the
Loneliness of being apart. Without making my daughter
Choose.

I am thankful that neither of us had to pay alimony or
Child support because we would still be in court fight ting
I am Thankful to God for Christmas for it is a reminder
To continue to forgive, to live, to love the way that Christ did.
I am thankful for the happy moments  I share with my family
Now.  I am happy to be alive and I know that I can survive
Anything after divorce.

Just amazing what a little gratitude will bring into your life isn't it?  Nicely expressed.

It's never easy to find things to be thankful or grateful about after something hard in life...but you seem to have done an amazing job.

This poem reflects a very strong soul.  Keep writing!
