Faces

You lay before me
In such sweet peacefulness
And I cherish the face
That is now
...weathered and old.

I admire the character
That is etched distinctly
Within each wrinkle,
I feel that I can trace
Your life journey,
In every precious line
That meanders lazily across
The handsome face of your youth.

I too in aging
Have hidden my youngness
...my beauty
Beneath the crumpled folds
Of my skin.
My face shares
Its history - with yours.

BUT!

Together,
We are forever
Handsome and beautiful,
For age has not diminished
That which we have had,
And will haveā€¦into eternity.

You awake,
You smile.
You are
...joy,
My joy.

I find it also truly amazing that the older we get the more forgiving and understanding we become if we choose that route to go.  The rest, get hardened and look much older.  I liked this poem a lot.

What a loving poem.  How I envy those who are privileged to grow old with the love of their youth.  Joyce

This is one that I have to add to my library.  It's so tenderly written and full of love...
