A Place of Stones

These ancient walls hold hallowed bones,
Encircled by this place of stones.
The parapets are old and worn.
A gargoyle's lost a twisted horn,
But still directs a fearsome grin
Towards those who leave or enter in.
Ravens fly from every tower.
In the rubble, sedums flower,
Called Mossy Stonecrop, by a few
Who climb to glimpse the ruin's view.
I wander here sometimes to see
If I can feel its history.
There's strangenenss in the atmosphere,
But yet I come and feel no fear.
I know that in the dungeons, deep,
Many a lord and lady sleep.
Long forgotten names are there,
Carved in stone, with reverent care.
It is a lingering mystery,
This crumbling castle, by the sea!

This put me in mind of a place I walked near Halifax once - the hills were covered with the moss, and although no castles, there were caves and this brought back fond memories of my time there.  Nice to read your poetry again.

I never cease to be amazed at your talent.
Each poem seems more incredible than the last one and yet when I go back to read the older poems, I find them just as awesome.

I love the way you bring an old castle to life.  It makes me wish to be near one and actually *see* this poem taking place.

Wonderful writing yet again

These lines:

"But still directs a fearsome grin

made me think of Poe.
