Traveling down the birth canal

I came head first

Unaware of my destination

Only knowing,

My body was suddenly cold

A feeling I had never felt before

For nine months

I had been growing and developing

Within the safe warm cocoon of

My mother's womb

Now I had plunged

Into a world

I had never known

Now I was not in the dark anymore

Light was all around me

Opening my eyes

I tried to see what was in this new place

That was alive with voices and sounds,

I had only heard faintly

Before my arrival

I felt new sensations

Upon my skin as

People in white washed me,

Dried me, and wrapped me tightly

I was screaming, afraid

Not knowing, what would be my fate?

Then someone who held me

Placed me within my mother's arms

Her scent was familiar

Her voice assuring

I stopped crying

I looked into her eyes

And I knew I was right where

I belonged.

How lovely.  The most dramatic event in a person's life and no ability to report it.  you have been that voice.  Love, Joyce

Songbird:  I really enjoyed this!  Such a dramatic event, especially for the baby and no one to commune with, until put back in her mother's arms. It's hard to even imagine how terrifying it must be for an infant.

SongBird,  This is one of your best.  The way you wrote such a picture of what it was like for the baby.  I loved it.
