April Surprise They're picking tulips in my fields, All bundled up like furry seals. April is breaking all the rules And treating us like April fools. We could forgive a short delay But Spring has simply lost her way. The flowers and birds are all confused And my gardening side feels quite abused. The tourists stare and sometimes sneer And blame us because the sun's not here. We promised them a tulip show. This morning we awake to snow. Only a few times do I remember We even had snow in cold December. Please Mr. Winter go away. Don't stick around and spoil our May. Are we under the spell of an evil Wizard Who conjured up this April blizzard? Will we have snow and clouds of gray When we celebrate with Spring Soiree? Thermometers are dipping low And we only have two days to go Before we pick our garden treasures And brag about our springtime pleasures. Gloden alpendorns stand like soldiers As snow piles up around their shoulders. I check them out in wild derangement. Will they survive for my arrangement? Only yesterday the sun was out. Emerging spring was all about. Today is quite another show, Tulip fields blooming through the snow. This will be a long remembered date April 19, Two Thousand Eight. By: Joyce 2/19/08 |

I wanted to laugh and cry and sigh. Those poor tulips and how a spring day was ruined and made our poet sad and worried. But your humorous tune made me laugh. very good poem. |

Oh Joyce! I can relate to this poem. Well put as always. One time some people came up here to northern Michigan in the summer and it was cold. You would have thought it was my fault. And then we had a blizzard in the fall during color season. The tourists were not happy. That blizzard wizard is quite the chap! love, Barb |

Dear Joyce: Things are no better over here where I live. So sorry that this weather is spoiling the wonderful show of bulbs in your area. I keep telling people......(with tongue in cheek)...."Aren't we lucky to be seeing this historic winter??" I don't mean a word of it of course! Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Wow, dear Joyce, these tulip fields are breathtaking! You are not in Holland though, but I think the tulips resist well even in the cold. Wonderful poem! Greatly enjoyed. Wishing you plenty of sunshine! April macht was er will! April behaves crazily, my mother always said. Love and happy celebrations of Spring! Margherita |
