In the blended line between conciousness and sleep you can find me. There lies the land where my soul walks, leaving footprints sure and deep. Strength and sureness, power and revelation are felt, eyes glimpse the truth, and my feet know the way. Yet as I sink or rise from either side that hazy place I am lost in worlds surreal and dangerous, unsteady and fragile. A waking world, and a world of sleep? One they call truth, one they swear is a lie, neither a place of safety, nor one where I really reside. Either side of my peaceful plain, I spin like a top in the harsh winds of time, thrashed by the whip of uncertainty, and thrown back and forward untill.... I reach the tranquil line and sink within soft folds of temporary calm. |

Dear June: I know what that half awake state is like and some of the strange ideas that are born there. Good poem! Love Betty Lou |

have read "be still my soul" several times...even slept with it in my mind for two or three nites. it is one of those poems that will not go away. it has aroused my curiosity! each of us, when we read a poem, interpret it with our individual, cognitive, limitations and enhancements. it wasn't until i read "cave of the good dreams", by marge, that i developed a different understanding of the "blended line". i was thinking in terms of the world of "dementia" and marge's poem allowed me to think of the "blended line" as "daydreams" and "be still my soul" began to take on a completely different meaning...but i'm still having trouble... as a poet i reside in the world of daydreams. as a man i reside in the world of reality and as a soul i will dream the dreams that no one dreams, in the quiet solitude of death. so, be still my soul, be still! Thank you all for your brilliant comments. Marge yes i try to go to that cave too but often we lose control of our dreams ![]() RV I often write poems which can be interpreted in an open way. They are written so that the reader can take them to their own place and think of them in the way they feel the poem should be interpreted. Please look out for that in some of my other ( usually my serious poems ) work. The meaning I gave to the 'fine line' is that moment when you are neither asleep dreaming nor awake and conscious. It is a state of 'nowhere' and i believe that it is where the soul dwells and where we go when we pass away ... it to me is a place where nothing can hurt you, unlike in 'real life' and unlike 'in your dreams' Hope this helps and may i thank you for your great lines on the subject too ... wow this forum is wonderful ... i forgot just how much ! How nice for you that you have found the world in between and can put it into poetry. Love, Joyce |
