False Echos Weary is the soul that hears the voices failing to communicate there is a crack in the universe and our words are falling into it we speak of love with one mouth and spew hate with the other we speak of the injustice of others while we are not true to our own beliefs we make promises we know we won’t keep for our own profit the world cries foul while it systematically destroys itself words a blessing and a curse there is much to be admired about dumb animals the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

This poem fits in with so much that I have felt and I think everyone feels sometime in their lives. I think it's hard to trust when words and actions betray. Nice poem. Nice writing. Barb |

pegasus, i sense a paradox in "false echos". the poem is a reverberation of truth! indeed, there are those whose words do not echo their actions and their actions muffle the sound of their words, thus, contributing to "a failure to communicate"! verbal communication, whether, conveyed, by sight or by sound, is a "must" in a civilized society, if we are to survive. if there are chimpanzees, with a capacity to learn sign language and an african grey parrot with a mental capability to learn to read, i will still believe there is hope for the human species and they, too, will one day be admired. |

pegasus, want to share a sad moment with you. eventually, all will die. i know this be true and i just learned that, tuesday, washoe died. she was a chimpanzee, the first non-human to acquire human language. she was born in 1965 and had learned to sign in a research project some years ago. interspecies verbalization is an intriguing topic and provides insights into human teaching/learning as well! |

thanks to all who responded.I fear that we are destroying ourselves systematically. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

pegasus: A very thoughtful poem! I often feel "dumb" animals are a lot smarter than we are. Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

pegasus, if we are destroying ourselves systematically, i believe there is still hope for humankind! systematic destruction is a linear process and thus is subject to change. we live in a world of systems. many of the them are manmade and self destruction is one of these. human society compared to a lemming society exhibits a greater tolerence toward the exercise of free will. therefore, we can change because we have the protein chemistry to do so and the lemming does not. my main concern, however, is humans like lemmings can be followers. hopefully, they won't choose to follow the likes of another jim jones. chaotic destruction, however, is a completely different concept. yet, there are those that doubt the existence of chaos, viewing it, simply, as methodic madness!
