Useless Regret

With honest intent they determinedly went
To the task set before them this day.
With their masculine tools, without knowing the rules
Forty years of my life swept away.

All the tears I can shed cannot save what is gone.
The survivors recoil, still afraid.
To each uprooted plant, I get down on my knees,
Regretting the error I've made.

Some are gone without leaving a smidgen of trace
And others are hacked to the ground.
I tearfully replace each bulb that I find
With thanks for each one that I've found.

I'm glad that before my poor yard met its fate,
I had warned, "Do not touch my big Oak";
Or I would have found its long limbs strung about.
It survived by those few words I spoke.

I believed when they said they knew weeds from loved plants
And I left my life's work to their care.
I don't think that a hurricane could do more harm.
I weep for what's no longer there.

I ate my first plum this spring from a sprout
From a piece of its lost mother's soul.
I discover they've taken the sapling and stump
Leaving nothing but dirt in the hole.

I vow to each maimed and destroyed plant,
While I live that nobody will dare
To garden for me, except down on his knees
With small spade and diligent care.

Dear Joyce:

I am really sad for you, as I know how much care you lavished on your yard and plants.  Also how much you have always enjoyed them.
I remember the pictures you sent me of various parts of your yard. How did this ever happen?

Love

Thanks Betty and Marge.  My daughters were trying to get me some help with my huge yard and because of the very hot summer it had really gotten ahead of me.  We were paying 75.00 an hour so I knew I had to get out of their way because I couldn't bare to see anything cut back and I would be throwing money away.  Better I had taken it and buried it in the ground.  They were oblivious and ruthless.  There are irreplaceable things gone along with little pieces of my heart.  Love, Joyce  .

Joyce~
Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that~
Have you no recourse against the company that did the butchering job ?

If I were you, I'd make darned sure to contact your local Chamber of Commerce and your Better Business Bureau and report them~

Dear Joyce:

I am seconding Marge's suggestions. You hear of too many cases of people taking advantage of those who can't do the hard work anymore. After all the years of devotion to your yard, this is a crime!
