A ghostly warren
where hearts are enmeshed
veils reality

caught are we
within the spokes
of a giant wheel

where each spine teases,
entices, ensares
and we erroneously

deem this treasure
because of our need
so we lay our hearts bare

and look to humanity
to fulfill us
with what we desire

failure falls like night
when God isn’t first
in our core
