As I lay sleepless
In this dark and quiet room
The night covers me
Like a shroud of accusing cloth

We converse, you and I
After a lifetime of silence
I have so many things to tell you
So many things never said

Most of all the love
Hidden so deeply in my heart
Lo, these long and barren years
I give you now, freely

I feel the rush
As it flows out of me
To it’s rightful place
To you, across the void

For so long I was reluctant
To share it, to show it
Perhaps it was the stubborn pride
You passed down to me

I remember every heated exchange
Every angry word
On that last fateful day
The day no one said goodbye

And now, in the silence
I weep bitter tears
In painful retrospect
For all that could have been

All the precious time
Wasted, gone now, never to return
Drifted away like smoke
On the wind of false pride

Oh, how I miss you
And I sigh helplessly
Trapped in my guilt
A prisoner of this endless ache

So I talk to you now
Hoping you can hear me
Praying that you are not cold
Or hungry, or alone

Oh, how I wish, how I wish
That I could have held your hand
Kissed you goodbye
Whispered that I loved you

Too late I say it now
To the silence, I love you
To the stillness of the night
Forgive me

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

You bleed heartache, of things not said, down the page~

Tenderly I touch the screen .... and feel the loss for you~

pegasus111:  A sad and lovely poem!  I like to think somehow, people can hear us when we speak words of reconciliation, across the spheres!

I like to believe our loved ones who have gone ahead of us into the other side of this world can still hear us, or watch over us. And so, we go on conversing with them, as your poem does.  Write on..

If your anguish reaches out and touches someone to action before it is too late they will bless you for your jarring words.  Dear Friend may you find the peace you seek.  Love, Joyce

Silence is the canvas & tears are the ink.
Loved it!

Such a moving piece, pain well described, regret finding the road to peace. Bless you friend. Your heart is spilled out upon this page.

So glad this one came around again so that I could quote the part above~

The very thought makes me misty-eyed~
