Don’t Follow Me |

I wake up every morning, Paste a smile on my face. Walk out into the world, Step back into the race. I see others fall to the track, And it’s my nature to help them up. And I don’t want anyone to think That I’m not just as tripped up. We’re all running the same race, For whoever’s approval we seek. But please, for dear God’s sake, Please don’t follow me. It may look like I know where I’m going, But folks, I’m traveling blind. I’m just running at full tilt, I don’t know what I’ll find. So if anyone’s behind me, I fear that they’ll get hurt. Because sooner or later, I’ll come to a stop, I’ll hit the brakes and crash and burn. We’re all running the same race, For whoever’s approval we seek. But please, for dear God’s sake, Please don’t follow me. And when I crash, I’ll stay down, Just lay there for a while. Then I’ll get up, brush myself off, And run that final mile. But by the time that I finally hit, I’m afraid I won’t have the energy To pick someone else up and wipe them off, Or even to take them with me. And we’re all running the same race For whoever’s approval we seek. But please, for dear God’s sake, Please don’t follow me. I've stopped fighting my inner demons... we're on the same side now. |
