"Awaiting His Return" She sits alone and waits all day With nothing to do but hope and pray For over a year it has been this way Awaiting his return She listens and looks for a sign to show That he is home and she will know He'll keep her heart from sinking low Awaiting his return No clicks of horses' hooves are heard No nearby neighbor brings the word She begins to feel her hope absurd Awaiting his return Papers filled with news of the war Things seem worse than they were before From her eyes the tears do pour Awaiting his return Another year has come and past Forever his absence seems to last Her fading faith is falling fast Awaiting his return Then one day the world fades from sight And he is there waiting in the light She holds him close with all her might No longer awaiting his return Elyse |

Hey lemonraindrops, Welcome to the teen forum of passions! What an interesting poem, I'm glad that I didn't miss reading this one. The ending was beautiful in the way that you could interpret it to mean different things. Thanks for sharing, I look forward to reading more of your work "I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars." - Og Mandino @-->--- |

Welcome to pip!! I loved this.. so beautiful. I love how you repeated the last line of each stanza till the end which also happened to be your title. Amazing job. Hope to read more.. keep posting. ~heather~ Desire nothing except desirelessness. Hope for nothing except to rise above all hopes. |
