So here we are We stand again Upon the precipice Of Despair. I face North And you to South. Back to back we Edge a little closer To the fall. A wind whips wild Across the rocky Brine-slicked ridge. Waves wrap wrathful wreaths Of water to the sky. Beyond the black horizon The sun boils bright beneath the dark sea. From high above The clouds are pierced With shafts of starlight. Slanting sharp across the sea Like pillars straining To hold up the night. Our clothes dance frantic With the angry wind Like shells of the people We thought we were A wall of water Like the final hand of Earth Explodes upward as if In earnest To beseech the lonely Souls that neared the edge As one we turn to face The polar life, the other Person who shared it all. But we do not see. We are blind behind Silken folds of woven doubt. Eyes too clouded to perceive The longing face That is our Other We turn and step To the razor's edge, the rocky ledge Our Faces calm Devoid of feeling Prepare to plummet to our peril But as the final step awaits A frenzied fall to end it all A glorious sun, like life itself Erupts from the rim Of an endless sea Blinded, we shield our eyes And blink As strangely We turn again To one another Clasp our hands and walk away The silken masks have slipped The veil upon the world Is lifted by the burning blaze And at last we see! And as each player moves their piece, confident and tall |
