i don't actually know you,
i know you don't know me.
you'll know what he has told you,
of how we used to be.

once upon a time,
he and i were good.
no, we were great,
did all that we could.

but thing turned sour,
he changed as did I,
tears are beginning to fall,
I can't help but cry.

he went with another,
we both were to blame,
what we had was phenomenal,
it is a crying shame.

so now you have his heart,
be gentle with it please.
i still care ever so much,
i'm not trying to tease.

although you have his heart,
it's he that still has mine,
so be good and be faithful,
as i lay about and pine.
i hope she makes you happy, be good.

Expect nothing, Prepare for anything.

Dear Ms Belinda,

I figure we will always love people this special and that the sadness is special too, for a time in your life when the two of you fit so beautifully together. Mostly I think—and I'm an old married guy—it's the memory of that particular self you once were but have now grown beyond. That's the sadness, I think. It takes a while to recognize that your heart isn't exactly the same shape any more. You never stop feeling that old love, it's simply time eventually to find a more complex and personal fit for who you've become. And you can only discover that with somebody whose heart will be a surprise.
