A poet’s mind is like a stream Meandering across a dream It flows the way the water flows And grows the way a river grows Life and death are much the same Just christened by a different name Life has carved a river’s bend And death has claimed a poet friend In all the books of age and time No tender words were more entwined No thoughts more loving and sincere No friend was more esteemed and dear So tell me, death, what do you say You cannot claim a victory day The one who died still sweetly gives Within her verse she lives, she lives! Her waters flow, her river wends Around the hearts of poet friends Her words still travel round the earth And to new hearts are given birth Her verses never die, you see You cannot claim a victory Her words engraved on screens of blue Live on and on in spite of you For life and death are much the same Just christened by a different name Elizabeth Santos |

"O grave where is thy victory! O death, where is thy sting!" ---Paul, of Tarsus. What a marvelous testament to the continuity, to the triumph of life! I am deeply moved. Thanks for sharing this wonderful poem. art |

This is about Marge, isn't it and all the poets who will never die, but live forever through their words. This is so beautifully written, thank you for sharing your poet's heart. ~Titia~ Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

This is a tribute that will be ageless on it's own. Wonderful heart in this and "you" as well. Beautiful words, perfect form and flow and one to be admired. |

You have written this, dear Elizabeth, with a poet's passion and it reaches deep into the heart of the reader. Yes, she lives! Love, Margherita |

Beautiful, simply beautiful The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools. |

You know I have no objectivity where Toerag is concerned - so I'm sure it doesn't surprise you that A Man Called Toerag and I'm Havin' a Toerag Day are two of my favorites from your pen. If I were to be asked to name one of your poems, those two would surely top the list - right along with Pretty Purple Lace and The Day of the Senator. All of them do more than touch me - they mean a great deal to me, personally. But this poem is special... and not just because I love Marge and miss her. It holds hope for all poets - especially this childless one who needs to believe I haven't wasted the breaths I've breathed and the spaces I've occupied through the years and that something of me will live on. Though I may never know the eyes that read or the hearts that may remember, I believe they will exist... for even the least of us poet types. Thank you! |

I thought I had read all of yours, Liz, but missed this masterpiece. You could not have said it better. You are the best. |
