When I was 17 I lost the love of my life to heroin, I am now 22 and largely recovered. This is my story. Solitude in empty black Tortured silence echoes back From my last despairing cries Hands outstretched to empty skies Sifting through the barren dust Dreams have died and turned to rust A futile show of strength decays A timeless haze of empty days All I loved has passed beyond The memory of times now gone Shadows reach and stretch their claws The mouth of hell opens it’s jaws In shallow lust I seek solace To buy one sacred hour of bliss No predator I am the prey To be devoured at break of day Sundered soul is ripped apart Requiem for a broken heart Into the bottle I will drown Drain the precious poison down Your face it haunts my fevered dreams Awoken to the silent screams Who is beside me? Is it her? She’s not the one of that I’m sure How could you leave me here alone? When we were one of flesh and bone How could you take half of my soul? And leave a torn and bleeding hole How could you pass beyond the gate And leave me to a vicious fate? When I loved your every breath How could you bleed my heart to death? Why must I linger here in pain? Will I never feel your touch again? Should I follow into the light? Leave someone else in endless night? Never sigh for a better world, it's already composed, played and told. |

Yo Suncleaver, That's sad, and I'm sorry to hear it. Life happens for everyone. You gotta keep on trucking. Bobby |

Very sad story, Suncleaver. Please don't make it twice as sad. I want to see more of your wonderful writing. Ida |

You have the capacity to love ~ and to love deeply and completely. That tragedy appears to have added a host of emotions to your well of poetic ink. Most poets have some very sad stories to share. I suppose that in some aspects, there can be a silver lining to every dark cloud. Raw emotion expressed very convincingly. EA |
