She said the morning prayer, then bade us to repair To church there to attend interment of a friend A little girl so fair, with satin golden hair “And thereby make amend to Him who calls our end” She spoke in voice so drear, she did not shed a tear, “There part with one held dear, and learn to live in fear.” I gazed and gazed and gazed, as Jesus Christ they praised My eyes fixed on the girl, locked on a single curl My heart completely fazed; she had to heaven raised And I, left in a whirl, on Earth, here to impearl With burning tears her face, as she lay in that case And with a kiss to grace, the one none could replace. |
