Poppies' call

Thousands of red eyes
fix their gaze on me
beckoning me with
audacious black pupils
to move into
their pristine green home.

I want to stretch out
in midst of their gently swaying
almost impalpable corollas
and let them carry me away.

I don’t need their essence
to enter the world
of imagination.
Their striking beauty
is powerful enough
to experience intoxication.

The breeze kisses
every single petal
in its swift passage.
I can hear their laughter
as they celebrate
in grateful contentment
their ephemeral existence.

Awareness dawns
while I admire the
impressionistic tableau.
I now will lie down
in midst of this
enthralling green home.
And I will call you
to share my dreams.

Just a little while
on this fleeting meadow
will do, my love, I know,
to set off into spheres of peace
upon our freshly mended wings.

This reminds me of the poppies that grew on the embankment in front of our house when I was a child. They were so beautiful and your poem captures that beauty so well, Margherita.

Yo dear Margherita,

This is very nice.  The people next door when I was small had a big poppy bush growing in their yard.

Ah, Margherita...

You live among the red poppies...

I grew along and among the silky golden ones...

when life was a little easier for its hardness,
a little simpler for its naïveté...

but for all of those times, a poppy will
forever mean "memorial"...

This is such a colorful bend and sway,
and comes to life so clearly in my minds eye.

I love their laughter - they are such delicate beauties.  Why do I hear laughter that comes from their hearts and bellies?  This is captivating, dear Margherita.  I love poppies and you have done them justice.

Thank you all, my dear Poet friends, for enjoying the poppies with me.

I take a busride every day these days along the old Roman Via Cassia and the beauty of the meadows with all those red poppies is simply awe inspiring. The colors are so intense! And combined with the blue sky it takes your breath away.

Love,
Margherita
