On a bad day, I wish the memories away To be able to go back to before that day Without the knowledge I was bliss Without ever having felt, I would be rid of this There is no lasting comfort for loss There is no “good times” that make up the cost There is only why and what for’s Only a shadow of life before I believed the fun times would see me through I believed with that I would eventually not miss you I believed I could talk myself into hating you for leaving Believed it would alleviate the grieving You’re still gone, and really no one is to blame On a good day, I know nothing will ever be the same "too bad ignorance isn't painful" ~Unknown~ [This message has been edited by Susan Caldwell (05-29-2009 08:49 AM).] |

I know just how you feel Susan. I have felt the very same way. It seems the memories of our loss, never go away. And, you are right, there is no lasting comfort for loss. |

I was born with very thin skin. They told me I needed to develop thicker skin to survive this world. My wounds grew scars, so now I have that thicker skin that they suggested I acquire--now if I can only get my heart offa my sleeve. It all eventually becomes a part of you, lovie. Then we make peace with it. I love you. |

Susan, I related. I missed this work and it makes me sad. So I'm bumping it, because it's worth the read, and the understanding. Meg |

Gosh, Susan, this truly aches. I felt this to my very core. Far too many of us have experienced that kind of loss. I know it offered me little comfort when people used to say to me that "time heals", but they were right. I just wish it hadn't taken so ding dang loooong! But I can honestly say, that I am now 99% free of that pain. I wish this for you, Sweet Susan. You write some of the best emotive poems at pip! Giving you a warm, compassionate hug, Linda |

Knowledge can be a burden. Good poetry may lighten the burden...just a little. |

Accepting the things we can not change is probably one of the hardest things to do. So sad your poem, and the feeling, so well conveyed. |
