Sandy brought me flowers in Winter; like children sharing an imagined song we danced, forgetting tears and sympathy for friend and lover blown away in war; we were released from worrying if he was safe, secure in knowing where he is and how he'll never change, never age, become infirm or crazy, like the squirrel eyed shopping bagger sleeping on the stairs below us just inside the cracked, wind rattled door. Later, on a memory crowded bed we loved believing, with our bodies and our souls entwined, death and all the twisting mysteries of fate swirling down the endless corridors of time would pass our doorway harmlessly mistaking us for shadows. ©1966, 2003, 2005, 2009 by icebox . . |

Thank you, sir, for bringing this back for this memorable day. I can ascribe to the knowing, and hurt with all others over the terribles losses. |

You touch a nerve in such a way, it hurts and yet I nod at the memory, he'll never age, he'll never change... and we are safe. The irony!!! Bless you, icebox~ |

I went to highlight my favorite parts of this work, and realized I was copying the whole thing. Very much loved this piece..so here's a bump. |

A breathtaking write, where the sharp edge of painful memories leans into the warm of two who share the now. Masterful and extremely poignant. Love, Margherita |
