I started out walking you through this with intentions none other than to stretch my imagination An inspiration to my motivation, I wanted nothing more than to feel death breathing down my neck The threat of pain I doubted I would ever feel 'cause you were no where close to being real You were nothing more than a way for me to express in words things I could never say Finger to my lips, I swore I wouldn't make a sound Now look how late we're talking, sleep deprived, stumbling through the house, falling on the couch Where I was informed your interests weren't limited to me I can't describe the feeling or the meaning of every tear we cried You kissed my forehead and told me it'd be alright Sitting on the back deck, chain smoking cigarettes, listening intently to every word Trying hard to stand my own ground And when the phone call was over, we were too choked up to talk So we just made love beneath sheets I'm sure so many others have been under But I'm too intent on keeping you - It doesn't phase me like it should Emily Shives |
