Fog lay sheer upon the grass last night. Through the shreds of evening, echoing as spirit tones across the hill, came the lonely, resonant note of a night-bird's plaintive call, in the far away a bell tolled...solemn,slow,and sweet. Somewhere behind the scuttling clouds a young moon rode...and I was there alone. Yet what was I? What part of me was of the bird-note or the bell...what part of me the mist that shone as tears and what part of me the night? I was severed into atoms and had become one with innumerable others that knew more beauty than the whole of me might ever know. Nothing surrounding me was entire, complete, but merged into parts that broke and scattered and formed again, yet left that which was me untouched. With groping hands outstretched into magical nothingness I waited...listening...feeling...yearning.The moon cast no shadow, and the clouds became but dream myths and faded into space.Perhaps it was a dream...the night...the mist...the moon and I...Perhaps a fantasy of thought that touched upon the invisible and made of me a dream as well.

Hi Rex~
I love the ending lines....the whole captures that dream-state with such an ethereal bent. Each "thing" so separate but each a part of each in the grander scheme.

what part of me the mist that shone as tears and what part of me the night?

Such beautiful introspection you share. *S*

"Perhaps a fantasy of thought that touched upon the invisible and made of me a dream as well."

...and therein is the rub...the quintessential essence of zen
