one million

inside the mall
john and dave
walked past
wearing a look
of mission
complete,
this told me
they booked
the million for
their end of it -
stared nighttime
in the eye -
so i sat them
down in the food
court and john
explained the power
of positive thinking
and child-like steps,
dave looked on
in agreement and
at this point i
realised every
man for himself,
then,
to a room
beyond curtains
sealed off by darkness
and a vacuum of
quiet smothering
time, i awoke
from the dream
with thoughts of
what i would and
wouldn't do for
that kind of
money, if only
those icy arms
would reach
over from the
other side of
the bed once
in a while and
my son wasn't
so adorable

my
decision would
be that much easier
