Her call had been to fight for Him
as legions battled on.
She led the soldiers into war
they fought with might and brawn.

But evil forces were at work
to end her God’s campaign.
A girl of only nineteen years,
they said she was insane.

They came for her at early morn
to take her to her fate.
She kicked and screamed, she spit and cried
they dragged her to the stake.

They said no girl was called of God;
they knew it could not be.
Her battle cry was heard by all.
Her death was by decree.

They tied her to the stake of wood
and lit the fire below.
She had no hope left in this life;
her face now all aglow.

Her eyes were set on heav’n above;
she felt her God’s embrace
as flames became her funeral pyre,
a smile upon her face.

Joan of Arc?

My word, that is one powerful piece of writing! Excellent portrayal of that tragic event. Painfully vivid!
