Single Rose

She found a home, she could call her own,
Nearly seventy years ago,

A place where she, could grow to be,
Everything, for which she was known,

Her beauty was, taken care of because,
As she blossomed she couldn’t be ignored,

And she brought much joy, to many a girl and boy,
Over the years she was adored,

Then the care that had been given, past many years of living,
Seemed to slowly disappear,

She was left all alone, at the house she called home,
Nobody even knew she was there,

Going by that old place, a smile came to my face,
As I saw through the bristle and briar,

One tiny red dot, fighting hard for the spot,
Just one last blooming desire,

I knew the story, of the beauty and glory,
This rose that was left all alone,

I had just the place, and I cleared the space,
I’m giving this “Thrown Away Rose” a new home.

The answer is always NO, Until the question is asked.

How beautiful, dear Tracey! You arrived in time to give this rose a second youth! That's a very long life span for a rose I think!

Enjoyed this poem greatly, it shows your ability to appreciate nature's gifts.

Love,
Margherita

Margherita, How nice to see you enjoying my roses,

The American Rose Society classifies an "old" rose as any rose introduced before 1867. Many gardeners consider it old if it has survived 75 years or more.

We will see if we can make this one last longer with a new home.

Love, Tracey.

So you are an expert, I see! I have a pink rose plant on my balcony. Our concierge gave me a stem from the roses growing in the entrance garden to our building and now she is so richly blooming, a true joy (it's already 30 years that I have her).

Again, compliments!

Love,
Margherita

I actually saved 12 roses from going to the dump.  My Brother in law moved in to an old house that had a lot of very old rose bushes, and he was going to dig them up and throw them away.  I told him I would take them and I now have them at my house all along my fence.

Thank you again.

Sea,  Nice to see you looking at my rose.

Thanks, Tracey.

Linda,  Just out of the Army, I worked for a store called Grand Central in the garden shop.  They had a whole load of roses that were, they believed dead.  They threw them away and I asked if I could take them.  I knew that roses are very hardy.  I loaded over 100 roses in the trunk of my 57 Chevy and took them home,  Nearly everybody in the neighborhood got roses.  My mom got about 20 or 30 and the majority of them grew.
Thank you for your read and re-read of my poem.
Love Tracey.

Another great poem Tracey in your usual fine style and your picture of the rose was

magnificent, I could see a beautiful pair of lips in that brilliant rose. Take care.

Tracey, I just read your reply to my reply and I'm smiling ~ BIG time! Is that a photo of one of the new generation of roses? It's beautiful!

I love gardening and I grow roses too. In fact I have some "throw away roses" myself so I really enjoyed this beautiful poem.

Yo WTBAKELAR,

I thought you were talking about an older lady, and all along you were talking about flowers.

Here in the hood we grow human flowers in our concrete garden.

This is a nice combination.

Bobby,

You are the first to see the hidden story behind the Flower.

I was trying for that very effect.
Thank you for noticing.

Much appreciation,  Tracey

As I was reading your poem and responses, I couldn't help but think of other things that might have another life if only a little care was given... particularly how a cast off lover can seem to have no life... until a nourishing touch comes along. *S*

So yes... your poem has many layers... and all of them are beautiful! *S*

suthern, I know what your mean,  I have on more than one occasion been thrown out like dirty dish water, only to come back and start with someone new.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and stopping in to see my rose.

One sees a thorn bush...full of roses
An other sees a rose bush...full of thorns.
A rare one sees...   potential

I'm not at all certain what I mean by that, but I like this.
