Selene
by Linda L. Dowd

As sun surrenders in the evening sky
~ sinking at far edge of the world,
Selene begins her slow ascent among the stars.

Sensing the pull of the waxing moon,
I sway in rhythm with the tides.
I slip into a reverie as I view Selene
suspended in a black velvet sky.
For eons, mankind has been mesmerized
by this paragon of pulchritude.
In silence, she radiates her quiet beauty
upon the Earth ~ smiling...

Not only are you an Angelo Terrestre, but also an Angelo Lunare! Selene rhymes with Serene and you just brought me into this place of "quiet pulchritude" with your magical weave of romantic words.

The picture suggests a lovely transparence and that's what the Moon also transmits and reflects, transparent love thoughts sent up by multitudes of romantic souls.

Love and hugs.

a most fine 'write' (grand imagery)! ...

I am especially fond of the beginning :

"As sun surrenders in the evening sky
~ sinking at far edge of the world,
Selene begins her slow ascent among the stars."

AND:

"...Selene
suspended in a black velvet sky...

In silence, she radiates her quiet beauty
  upon the Earth ~ smiling..."

MUCH (sustained) applause for this 'penning' !!

Yo dear Linda,

Selene is always causing trouble.  Hyperion and Theia should have taught her better.

Nice description of the troublemaker.

Yes, that is a very beautiful painting. I wish I knew the name of the artist. I have used this pic before to accompany a poem of mine. I feel as though I am a part of it.

Thank you!

Yes, Serene has had her moments. ~ Haven't we all?

It is believed that a moonlit night brings the feeling of romance as Selene's moon rays ~ and kisses ~ fall upon sleeping mortals.

This is a most tranquil poem, and the graphic furnishes a calm setting.   A poem to be read with reverence.  Beautifully brushed.

Remember me in my words, as I, too, shall remember you.

As a poet ~ Well, let's say "as a writer of poetry" ~ I am very gratified when a reader deems a poem of mine a "keeper".

~ May you bask in the beams of Serene, each and every night.

"Tranquil" is such a calming word. Thank you for using it to describe my poem. That was my main intention for writing it ~ besides giving the Moon Goddess her rightful due!
