The Warrior Mice

The orange and gold of the dark desert floor
did fade with the plummet of the Sun
-and the red heat ebbed in the twilight
-while the blue stars twinkled in the nightlight.
-When the brown sand shifted in the moonlight,
Two mice did run, run, run

thru a deep, deep gully of an upslant hill
over sand in the night sublime.
-Their hearts beat faster in the lost light
-from impending disaster of a fright night
-by the claws of an Owl now in midflight
as its wings sliced the air from behind.

But as Warrior Mice hunting on the hot desert sand
and designed for evasive speeds,
-they flickered thru shadows of the night time,
-criss-crossed the black road's white line,
-confused the Owl's sight line
bringing food for their young 'uns needs.

And the orange and gold of the bright desert floor
were the paints of the dawn's display
-as the mice peeked once at the daylight
-thru the sweltering heat that was airtight
-while the sand grew hot in the sunlight
and the Owl waited close of the day.

Soon, sunset light poured its colors into night
dimming day into indigo and black
-on the sounds and the silences of evening
-near the shadows of the forest life teeming
-where the Dusk of the night is asleeping
with a dream of the Dawn coming back.

Then the orange and gold of the dark desert floor
disappeared with the plummet of the Sun
-and the red heat ebbed in the twilight
-while the blue stars twinkled in the nightlight.
-When the brown sand shifted in the moonlight,
Two mice did run, run, run.

This is a fun, well thought out poem.
Colorful, and lively, too bad for the third mouse.

wasn't me, Wasn't Me, WASN'T ME!!!

I may be an owl, but I LOVE mice (and not to eat).

I love your poem, but just had to let you know, IT WASN'T ME!!!  Smiles.

SeraphimB – What scribbler of words would ask for more than that. Thanks SeraphimB. Namyh

Tracey – Hope it made your heart skip a beat for fun. This was inspired by a program on Discovery channel. Amazing is the poet’s inspiration. Thanks Tracey. Namyh

CriticalMass – I guess there is a critical mass we confront everyday to strengthen us, both man and mouse. Glad you enjoyed CM. Namyh

PrasadN – Amazing it is that Nature’s daily portrait of survival is painted by the strength, resiliency and determination of the underdog not to die today. I just feel proud to provide the poetic colored crayons which help make vivid its vast canvas.‘Cause if we look real close, in the upper “right” hand corner slightly above the mice, we can see ourselves pondering that same daily wisdom. And in the upper “left” hand corner, there’s a giant Owl saying “Now what’s for lunch, mouse or man.” Thanks for your words Prasad. Namyh
P.S. – If you see that Owl…………….RUN! RUN! RUN!

OwlSA – It may have looked like you but I know it wasn’t you………………Was it? LOL  Thanks OwlSA for reassuring us that you had absolutely nothing to do with it……………Did you? He! He! He!  And thanks for your enjoyment. Namyh

Hey Namyh, please don't doubt me, not even a little bit!  Smiles.  I adore every member of animal life that ever walked, ran, swam, flew, slithered, hopped or anything-elsed the planet or that ever will - but I have to admit that I am selective about the human variety, though.  It REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLY wasn't me!
