Plastered on the wall fly was squished at eight,
maddened by the buzzing my swatter couldn’t wait.
I saw them on the screen waiting to be inside,
bellies full of god knows what, enemies of pride.

Eyes of vacant hatred here to feed on meat,
panicked in fear I  madly cross the street.
the humming of a thousand flies,
drown my feverish cries.

Green and red, black and gold,
some the color of old bread mold.
I spy a house with a fly zapper hanging bright,
this is the place to go, I focus my flight.

Flashes of a death parade brighter than the sun,
fourth of July fly Auschwitz, now I’m having fun.
Crisply crumbly bodies dropping on the porch,
each one fluttering down like a Bunsen burner torch.

The owner of the house is screaming “O my God!”
Thousands of these lifeless husks with a stick I start to prod.
People from the block mutter in fear as the sky turns to black,
the hum of a billion flies, they begin the last attack.

This reminds me of the flies in Canada while hunting Caribou. Millions and I do mean millions of the little buggers. They would actually cause Caribou to die if they didn't keep moving.

"bellies full of god knows what,"

~ Thank goodness, they're smaller than we are!

Flies give me the heeby jeebies! ~ and you did a great job of writing about those pesky little critters! ~ Mind you, a horsefly is darn near as big as a horse! Yeppers, a horse with wings! Hmmm, that brings to mind "Pegasus"!!! Now THAT would definitely be able to get through the screen!!!

I don't know any person who likes those dirty, germ carrying pests.  I have been in the Cariboo and those are "noseeims." Let me tell you those little flies can give you a bite as big as an horse!  Best thing to do in that environment is to rub yourself down with the new sprigs from forest spruce trees, they don't like that.

Great write about one of the things I detest the most.

Carpe' Diem,
