The coldest dank summers alone
Since my young foolish self cost me us
A fantastical anticipation of a change of heart
So tired from years of still-standing

I still dream of you, my true sirens song
A tidal repetition may sweep me back out
Whilst mermaids massaged my ancient ego
Stranded and beached the ocean moved on

Black sun falls, your there in the surf
Holding, laughing, so happy with him
Who is he, that genius who knows how to love you
I ponder his secrets from my dark sandy cove

Fate has a way, we spoke once more
Braced for your wrath that didnt come
Your loose forgivness tore at my scars
Beautiful woman how costly was youth

Lacerating regret hounds me, lest if forget
Leaving its lingering wounds of just deserve
I wish you the world, i wish you a life
I wish you my wish, god bless and goodbye

Ten years on, this verse came along
For a list so long, of where i went wrong
So please sing along, to help me move on
Not poem nor song, my soulmate has gone.

A poignant reminiscing poem. The need to move forward is truly a heartfelt emotion.
Welcome to Pips, where you'll find other poets who write the sadness of unrequited love.

there is such a lucid melancholy to this...a sadness that touches the heart, but says that it must have been good to have learned such a hard lesson, regardless of its harshness...well written...nice imagery

You 'sang' your sad love story very well! You have a fine poetic voice!

This struck a strident chord in my heart.
Ofttimes we don't realize what ~ or whom ~ we had until it is gone...

I think many of us relate to this... I know I do. *S* And the painful truth is... the answer to "what's he (or she) got that I don't have?" is the simple obvious... you. *S* They choose... we lose.
