There are moments I remember, not all of them are good.
Some of them should be forgotten, there are days I wish I could.

There are sights and sounds, and even scents that bring me back 15 years.
There are dreams, and phrases, times of craziness that rekindle childish fears.

For some reason I still go back there, and think about those times.
Unspeakable things for a child to go through, true and actual crimes

I pushed thoughts out so I wouldn’t remember, forgetting is a must.
Somehow they still creep in my mind, damage days, and even trust.

It would be hard for anyone to understand, why the pain and ache still hurt,
Why after all these years I am still so guarded, defensive and alert.

Maybe deep inside I’m still that child; hoping that things will improve,
That the yelling and fighting in my memories will somehow be removed.

The past is gone, but not forgotten, and the damage is already done,
And I guess the less I think about it, the more I feel I’ve won.

Thanks...this one is totally related to my life as a child.

But we hopefully grow up and move past it and silently say "ok, MOVING ON!"

a lot of feeling in that piece, i agree with critical mass you gotta make friends with your ghosts, and your final line is very true "And I guess the less I think about it, the more I feel I’ve won"..... a good write
