By boot and backpack
we staged our attack
on the bully bulldozer's
gigantic big track
that tried to bury
our tiniest natives,
the plants on the hillside
Mother Nature kindly gave us.

We stood our ground,
made the metal beast turn around.
I wonder if he saw what we saw
when he turned to depart...
how his nasty gnashing teeth
had chewed the good earth apart.

Yes, we were few and miniscule
by comparison to the dozer,
yet we won that battle,
hands and weapons down.

By boot and backpack
we made our attack,
and won.

Yo dear Kacy,

Just what are you attacking?  Youth wants to know?

Thanks, Yann, for your supportive thoughts.

Bobby? This was an action I took part in several years back,
to protect a fragile ecosystem on a California hillside from over-development.
It was an interesting showdown. Even the dozer driver didn't want to proceed once we were through 'educating' him to the site facts.
We prevailed because we had dedicated conservation minded attorneys in our coalition who helped prove the site was a critical wildlife habitat and contained some rare and endangered plant species.
Gaia is our home, and as all life is interwoven, each species deserves respect and protection.

Risht on! Kacy, you truly do walk your talk!
You are one who most-assuredly is working towards saving the planet by preserving the gifts given to us by the Earth Mother.

God bless you!

Sue and Linda, thank you very much.
I was labeled an eco-terrorist by some people, but name calling never stopped me. We did what needed to be done, and for once, we won. There were other battles we lost, and when we lost, the entire eco-system lost diversity.

Kacy, overbuilding has helped put this country in the state it is in, I never saw so many houses go up so fast in this  country area and now...they are all up for sale... Same goes for so many malls being built  and others becoming empty over the years.

So much beautiful countryside ruined.

Thanks Maureen.
Bobby? that really isn't true, and I was never any kind of 'terrorist' anyway.

Bobby, I don't think you thought before you wrote what you did.  It's not what you said, so don't try to defend it.  It's the context in which it was said, and what it appeared to imply which was irresponsible and grossly unkind.  Probably only Kacy could reply with such graciousness.  I am sure I could not have.  As it is, it is taking me all my will power to reply as gently as I have.

Kacy, I love your poem and your spirit and your wonderful victories and I agree with everything you said.

However, I just want to say that there are some good bulldozers.  There is one I remember with affection, gratitude and tears - and that is the one which dug Flicka's grave for him.  As I would not recognise him/her if I were to meet him/her again, I revere every yellow bulldozer I see, in memory of the one who helped create Flicka's resting place - but of course, I wouldn't if it were to be destroying an ecosystem.

I hate bulldozers, they destroyed our gardens and took away our trees. Left our heart torn apart, I hate them too.

Owlie, yes, sometimes bulldozers are necessary.
And sometimes, environmental activists  (terrorists) must be pro-active and take a stand, draw the line, and fight for Gaia.

Prasad, I totally understand anger and frustration with having gardens destroyed.
What some call progress is nothing more than raping the land. It takes hundreds of years to build even one inch of viable healthy topsoil. Each scrape from a bulldozer changes the face of the earth.
