. Finally It is stillness I notice And cherish most The quiet Significance Of all those things That do not and yet Never the less Despite being inanimate Move How apart they are As though not indifferent But ultimately conscious Of the unimportance Of it all Isn’t it then This wisdom that shines With the morning light In the old colored bottles I brought back from the sea So many years ago On those open curtains In an empty room Folds flowing down Without motion To the bottom Of a dusty window sill Portraits on walls Whose eyes never close The white cups and dishes On wooden kitchen shelves All mercifully silent While outside The rush and noise Of passing cars Processing their drivers Through another day Toward not . . . . |

"Portraits on walls Whose eyes never close" Sometimes I want to cover them up. I liked this: "This wisdom that shines With the morning light In the old colored bottles" |

excellent imagery and philosophic content in this 'slice of life' impression! MUCH (sustained) applause for this 'penning' !! |

. Thank you both Recently, I have been trying to change my “poetic” being as could then respond to Mark Strand and not then embarrass him. As such, the both of us are or are trying to write for an audience that does not yet exist. It’s my ambition that that unknown might be able to read me, too, occasionally,as an example as well, and thereby not judge all of us too unkindly. This isn't an actually happy, or even hopeful poem and I did not expect it to be popular. Thanks again, John . |

I love the light on the old colored bottles brought back from the sea. I love the whole thing, it moves at its own pace and shows me things I haven't seen before. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

it's in the details that you provide for my eyes, that spark my own thoughts of stillness.... |
