One voice alone can make him yield The tide of knowledge never crests Resolved, and thus his fate is sealed By oceans vast or far afield The seeker shall be put to test One voice alone can make him yield To all rebuffs his will's been steeled These are the truths for which he quests Resolved, and thus his fate is sealed A testament to those revealed May oft' proceed as one possessed One voice alone can make him yield To see with eyes that pierce the shield Which hand upon his shoulder rests Resolved, and thus his fate is sealed Ambition's often ill concealed As words as these may well suggest One voice alone can make him yield Resolved, and thus his fate is sealed |

You've nary gone one bit afield Your poems always pass the test One beat for field and one for yield! (unless it's afield, of course) Nan's Morsels Writers' Blog |

Nan, Thank you for your poetic reply. I enjoyed the challenge. Now just for kicks, I think I'll pen something with two syllable yields and fields. Lol. Doc varun, Thank you for your reply. Welcome to Passions |

LindsayP, Thanks for the reply. The more structured forms are quite a challenge and consequently I'm not always that pleased with the results. This would be one of those, it fits the form, follows all the rules, and still comes up short. Oh well, practice, practice, practice. Doc |

Dr. Moose, I love villanelles. Although, I haven't gotten it down pat, yet. But, I see you are a pro. |

I tip my 'halo' to you! lol Writing a Villanelle is no easy matter! Trying to write a poem in that form, is like trying to follow a very complicated recipe! ~ They both drive me to pull my ebony tresses out! You've done a masterful job, here, Doctor! Love & Poet Light, EA |
