. So Prince Another night Spent in feminine Divertissement Her perfume touched With a scent of sweat Cloys the air As by candlelight You write An obligatory poem Since no one Really matters All that much One might as well Enjoy someone else As wealth with looks Can easily afford Right And wrong Are for the plain Virile paragon The only Moral imperative For the pretty Is they not be bored . |

Yo John, Being pretty is a heavy enough burden. Being bored would make it almost intolerable. Bobby |

. Thank you both. Kaci, This was my first response to beginning to again reading: "The Tale of Genji" (as translated by Arthur Waley this time), which probably continues to reflect as before my Catholic upbringing, ( it contains an allusion to a comment by Evelyn Waugh as well as touching on the social philosophy embedded in: “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde). Thanks again, John PS I didn't expect it to be popular. . |

I loved Arthur Waley's Translations from the Chinese I think it was. Anyway, I kept it out of the library forever, and had to pay a $5.00 fine when I finally brought it back. I was so tempted to tell them I'd lost it, and just pay for the book. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |
