I was standing on a mountain top
Watching a goldfinch get in tune
Flittering across a cotton crop
Serenading to the heart of noon

Twilling winged the lazy tiers
Counting the minutes slowly taken
For its song to reach my ears
As the opening day awakened

The feet of nutrition hung in vines
Sweeping aside leaves in decay
On the horizon of towering pines
White-tail fed in a cautious array

Then geese took wing in colored air
Creasing the clouds of mauve with morning
Loudly proclaiming the sky as theirs
Ringing my ears with jubilant storming

A redtail gave massage to sky
In circles precise to hunger pain
Menu of rabbit captured in eye
Awaiting the feast of talon's claim

The wind rang leaves in the trees below
To thermal freeways gave direct blast
A hawk in lazy circles drove
Considering the ground for break of fast
-----------
Thanks Mark, for the inspiration to write in rhyme and meter with such an excellent example of how to.

1slick_lady - Thank you much.

Ruth - The views can't be beat from the top of the mountains and to be able to see it from a hawk's view would be awesome.  Thank you dearly and Martie makes it easy to soar when it comes to the pen.

Mysteria- So glad you enjoyed and I do love to duet when you have the right partner.  Thank you for the visit and apprectiation.

***Martie*** - Thank you dear friend for allowing me to duet with you again after so many years.  It is always a pleasure and a treat to be able to mix words and worlds with you.  I am honored.

Man, this is so well written and the rhyme scheme is wonderful.
Leave it to you two, a couple of the finest poets I have ever read.

There's such beauty entwined with the reality of nature in this and that's not always easy to do.

BRAVO!!

Eric

This intro captured me right away.

"I was standing on a mountain top
Watching a goldfinch get in tune
Flittering across a cotton crop
Serenading to the heart of noon"

I was hooked.

This duet is magical, in imagery and sound.
I have a special fondness for birds, but an even greater fondness for two of the all-time best of Passion's poets!
Fantastic, Martie and Mark!!!

This has a beautiful flow...the type of poem one can gladly read aloud.

I especially liked the last stanza as well.

This was the beginning of a cascade
down a waterfall of well-written thoughts
with imagery that went sky high.

Well done!
