Bones and Muck
sit by the river
at night.

They’ve got
their lines in the water,
but they’re not really fishing.

Their hearts just aren’t in it.

They’re comparing notes,
talking all about
the strange tricks
they’ve pulled.

They’re laughing,
but you don’t really
have to be an expert
to know,
it’s not real laughter.

Its’ more a false laughter,
a laughter that they both know
they don’t mean.

It’s the kind of laughter
that keeps them both
from crying.

Bobby

Bobby

This scene once again is set perfectly and the reader can imagine it so well.
You take the reader there and then to finish it with this is excellent!

"It’s the kind of laughter
that keeps them both
from crying."

I know and so do most, exactly what that means.

Good work my friend!

Thanks Eric,

I'm pleased it worked for you that way.  Perhaps you remember those laughing times, times of lies, and truth, and laughter.

Yes, I do, but not under such harsh circumstances, yet still as a product of the nature of humanity.
We're all there one way or another.

I know that laugh all too well. Different circumstances of course. It's like it's the only thing that keeps you from crossing over into complete chaos.

Yo Eric,

You are correct.  In one way or the other, we are all "professionals".  Our minds and bodies are for sale.  I know mine is, and always has been.

Thanks dear Angellea,

Yes, such laughter is "safe".  It often times prevents chaos, as you say.

And they both know crying does no good...

Wonderful write...we see the scene so clearly and hear the hollowness of the laughter. *S*

Thanks dear Suthern,

For the kind words on this poem.

You are correct, as Bones and Muck would both agree, crying never put any bread in your jar.

laughter can cover a multitude of sins and crying is pretty useless most of the time.

Thanks dear Ida,

You have that right.  Crying is a waste of time.

Love Bobby
