My Muse being asleep today, I gave myself this little exercise: my first spenserian stanza. I'll probably do some research and expand, eventually. Thanks for reading. Mark In mankind you’ve oft caused hysteria: The Temple of Diana’s been your scene, The ancient books of Alexandria, The pretty body of a Carthage’s queen, And thousands souls you did to Death convene. The Global Theatre you have destroyed, To further prove you could e’er be so mean With Winter Palace and Chicago toyed, You've e'en to one barn puppet show your flames deployed. |

I like the flow of this piece, you have captured it quite well, however the last line drags just a bit for me, but really a good piece wonderful Peace of mind can only be achieved when we find peace with self |

Thanks for reading and taking the time to leave a comment, Burk28. I appreciate your honesty. The last line of the Spenserian stanza is always a hexameter and therefore has an extra foot. Do you feel the last line drags because of meter, contents or (most probably) both? By the way, 51 children died in the last line historical fire in Burwell, Cambridgeshire. Have a marvelous day! And welcome to PIP Mark |
