you bought those new dresses
and I wanted you to model them
still on the hangers
pretending I wasn't there

and then ask questions of my eyes
as they admired your hemline
draped over a high back chair
folded neatly with the tag still on

with some occasional small talk then
that get comfortable in my skin kind
as you asked if I liked your choices
and how they looked nearly on you

when you wore them to my imagination
