This is the first of 3 new poems that I wrote in March, thereby surpassing my goal of 2 for the month. Yay! “For Those Who Follow After” As a race, where does our future lie? We’re born, we live, grow old and then we die We live too individually, it’s true And care not what our fellow humans do We constantly put off what must be done So quick we are to turn around and run By doing so, I fear we’ll make life worse For those who follow after, like a curse Our future generations soon will face The procrastinated problems of our race This selfish state of mind we seem to share May prove to be too much for them to bear Regrettably, I see no end in sight To this, our unifying human plight This indolence that seems to bind us all Will someday cause our progeny to fall March 11, 2009 AMdG "My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--it gives a lovely light!" -Edna St. Vincent Millay |
