Splashes of Naples yellow alongside ochre
sway in the afternoon breeze,
as warm earthy siennas ground me
under brilliant Prussian blue skies.
I feel your heart beating
in each glorious sunflower
as it lifts its head to follow
the golden rays of sunlight.

Oh, if only for one moment
I could have sat by your side,
watched those brushstrokes
as you boldly painted life itself
upon the canvas of your spirit.

My own feeble attempts with the brush
never capture the pure essence
of light, movement and texture
that bled from your soulful heart
onto each awaiting canvas.
Your images of nature, unique visions
of the whole of life
stand as true and pure today
as they did so long ago, Vincent.

Your art shall forever stand
as a testament to your love for life,
even though you ended it by your own hands
in an overwhelming flood of passion.

You shall always be my favorite
artist of passionate humanity,
the one who makes me feel and believe
in the healing power of the sunflower.
There will be many sunflowers this year,
in my van Gogh Garden.

Lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely, LOVELY!  Kacy, you may not have sat next to Van Gogh as he paints, but I have - through this and all your other Vincent poems!  There is an ad here which says, "Nobody makes better tea than you and Five Roses" - well, nobody does Vincent van Gogh like you, Kacy!  Whenever I see a Vincent poem title of yours, Kacy, my heart lifts up, and I can't wait to dive into it.

LOL... Shaking head ruefully... I had no trouble recognizing this artist from your words... *G*

I fell for my ex when I saw the reproduction he'd painted of Van Gogh's sunflowers...

I really should have bought a print. LOL What do 16 year olds know? LOL

Beautiful write!!

your fine tribute and deep love for those lanky flowers stands right besides the great artist's own masterpiece

Arctic, Diana, Bruce, Ruth, Mish

Thank you for hanging out in my dream garden and awaiting earth canvas.
Arctic, glad you enjoyed this offering.
Owlie, I'll save you some power seeds.
Bruce, thanks for the applause, but  real credit goes to Vincent and Mother Nature's bountiful beauties, the sunflowers.
Suthern, those sunflowers are powerful!
Mish, what a generous comment!

I absolutely adore this!
Van Gogh's sunflower paintings appeal to this Leo artist! Mind you, compared to Vincent's ~ my art is most assuredly lacking! ~ It's more like finger-painting!

Love you word art, Kacy! You paint a picture with words as well as Van Gogh did with a paintbrush!

Yo dear Kacy,

We used to have a big old sunflower in the back yard when I was a kid growing up in Altoona, PA.  I used to love to eat the seeds.

Love Bobby

Kacy,

I love how the sunflowers face their cheerful faces to the sun.  You make me smile as you embrace nature and art.  I love this.

Kacy...Vincent...his sunflowers are one of my favorites but can't hold a candle to the real thing.  Wonder, colors this poem yellow.  (my father's name was Vincent)

No, dear Ringo....you just don't visit often Pips enough!

Thanks everyone! Today it was just cool gloomy cloudy here, but some other poor folks had winter again! Whatever weather comes, smile and be glad you can experience it.

I'm tossing 'mental' sunflowers to each of you until the real ones stand tall.
