She bid me to fetch her the moon
And I could not refuse this boon;
A ladder I would build, and soon
Began the climb
As eagerly as a baboon
And in no time

Was waving, half way in the sky.
Then I saw her begin to cry
And as I could not fathom why
a pink balloon
I blew and parachuted. I
Had no festoon

Attached to this cheap teak-made ladder.
I went in to relieve my bladder,
I’ve never seen her being madder,
Our image was sore
In front of others, and my adder,
And what was more

All pets I kept crept on the floor -
I had forgot to lock cage doors -
She’d take them all back to the store.
She then calmed down
And kissed and loved me as before
I bought that gown

On credit for a thousand dollars.
But soon enough she’d start to holler
Had I the income of a scholar
Of ebony
Would be this ladder, and the squalor,
Our infamy

Would be unknown to us and others.
But I refused to beg my mother
For cash, or borrow from my brother,
And began to climb
Towards the moon, and in another
Short frame of time

At last, at last I reached the moon.
Oh how could I describe the gloom
Such time we’d wasted, and new moon
It was now. I
Could hear her cry what a buffoon!
I felt so shy.

I waited there in clouds and rain
For sure her heart I had to gain
Again, so there I would remain
Until the moon
Would grace our winter sky again
And just as soon

As it appeared I took hit off
the hook and eagerly jumped off;
Yet still, in bitter mood she scoffed
That its quarter was
All I had brought. She had caught cough
And that because

I had her wait outdoors so long.
With broken bones, and but one song
To listen to the whole monthlong,
I had to stay
In hospital. She packed her thongs
And moved away.

Aren't you the multi-faceted poet!!! Enjoyed this whimsical side of your writing. It's fun to mix it up, n'est-ce pas?

Gosh, it's a shame that your trying to give her the moon landed you in the horse pistol. I mean, hospital. ~ and to think that she even took her thongs with her. Has she no class? lol

Mark,

This is an example of why I go back to read poems I have missed.  This has me smiling - and I think how intricate it is.  The words weave well and it flows well too.

Thank you for sharing.  You haven't been posting as much lately.  Is all well with you?

Thank you again.
